About

Paulette Woods started on the Board of Education July 1, 2016 (two and half years ago).

Look at her and the Board of Education’s record of accomplishment:

The 12-year-old stalemate with the BTF contract was fixed, a new contract was signed Giving Buffalo Teacher a fair and equitable salary comparable to the suburban schools.Yes, teachers are a key part of the New Education Bargain. And Renegotiation the NFTA Student Transportation contract to give more bus routes, longer bus hours for BPS student to travel to Afterschool, Saturday Programs, Sport events etc.….

The Buffalo Public Schools district is no longer failing, but thriving. We celebrate that only 3 schools remain in receivership, down from 25 receivership schools three years ago

The district now boasts smaller class sizes than ever before, 20 community schools, after-school programming at every school, and an average graduation rate that has skyrocketed to over 68% in the last three years. It’s an amazing turnaround!

It affirms that a quality education is every child’s right. This is indeed a time for celebration. Access to a quality education as a social equalizer, The Board of Education passed an MBE/WBE policy and have reached out to the community with biannual training on “How to do business with Buffalo Public Schools” February is a training date.

She has been working with the District Parent Coordinating Council (DPCC), the Buffalo Parent and Teacher Organization (BPTO) and the Most Value Parent Organization (MVP)so that all of Buffalo’s parents have a voice, are engaged, and are a presence in the schools, at meetings and extracurricular functions and are included as decision-makers in the education of our children.

One of her highest priorities has been breaking the” School to Prison pipeline” with fewer out of school suspensions, practices, working with Dr. Fatima Morrell and Dr. Eric Rosser. The My Brother’s Keeper Program is providing mentors and support to at risk young men to keep the in school to graduate.

She has worked with Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples, our now Majority Leader in the State Legislature, and Regent Catherine Collins to focus resources on increasing diversity in the hiring and development of teachers. Educators have stated Diversity and Equity as a priority in our beloved Buffalo school, because NO child white or black gets a good education without be exposed to diversity in staffing, administration and teaching. All children need to be prepared to work in a multi-cultural world.

The Board of Education provides support through professional development training to equip our teachers to deal with the challenges of a diverse student body with classes such as Culturally and Linguistically Relevance Training. The school curriculum has been expanded to include African Infusion through the Amistad Program and books on African American history, so multi-cultural achievements are celebrated, and all children can know of their role /proud heritage in the building of America!

As part of the Board of Education she has focused on Vocational and Technical Training so that all children graduate with a skill, job ready, college ready or employable. This is the new Education Bargain’s promise. Adult Education and the CCI program are a key to 100% of our children

The work continues with the Buffalo Board of Education, and Governor Cuomo’s new Education Equity Formula, which will direct state funding equitably to the neediest schools with Special Education students and English Language Learners so all children get a good education whether it is inn a local school, or criterion school.
