Kendra Smith nominated for music award

Kendra Smith, 17, has been singing gospel music since she was three years old.

She learned earlier this month that her latest CD, "Something New," has been nominated for a 2015 Stellar Award in category 24 for the Youth Project of the Year.

The South Florence High School senior said she never thought her talent would take her so far, so soon in her career.

"I was shocked at first because I had just went to the Stellars a year before and here I am now nominated for an award. It was kind of surreal. I was like 'what?'," said Smith.

Smith said singing is her passion and even if she doesn't win, it feels good to have been nominated.

She plans to attend the 30th annual Stellar Awards show in March in Las Vegas.
