(Buffalo News) At the gas pump, Paulette Woods watched the dollar total on the pump's screen race past what she was used to pay.

"Look at this," she said as she filled up her Lincoln MKC at the Sunoco station at Gates Circle. "By now it would be full. It didn't have to go over $30. It's still going … and going."

Gas prices are rising, and motorists in the Buffalo Niagara region haven't seen prices this high since December 2014.

The average price in the region on Wednesday reached $2.93, up a penny from the day before, and up a nickel from a week ago, according to the AAA. The average price has risen 6.5 percent in the past month. And there's no sign of relief.

Buffalo's no exception. The national average price is $2.90, and some parts of the country are averaging well above $3, like California's eye-popping $3.70. New York State's average has hit the $3 mark.
